The VNREDSat-1 satellite celebrates its 10th anniversary in orbit this month!
May 23 - Happy birthday VNREDSat-1 !
VNREDSat-1, launched in 2013, is a Vietnamese Earth observation satellite for which EADS Astrium SAS (now Airbus Defence & Space) was in charge of development.
The satellite is the result of an initiative by the Vietnamese government and enables the country to monitor and study the effects of climate change, predict and anticipate natural disasters and optimise the country's natural resources.
The satellite is equipped with a telescope with a resolution of 2.5m (not bad at the time of its development!) in which are two equipment developed by EREMS : NIEU and F2EM.
The NIEU equipment is the video processing and mass storage box which is used, including, storing the images before being sent to the on-board computer for transmission to Earth. As for F2EM, these are the sensor's front-end electronics.
The initial lifetime of VNREDSat-1 was 5 years and it is still operational today and continues to provide regular data to Vietnam !
